A couple of random observations as we take a few days in beautiful Cabo San Lucas, Mex ico to celebrate the Fliing 2.0 release.
The economy here has been visibly impacted as we noticed several major developments that are obviously stalled in early stages of construction. The resorts we visited are not full and even the time-share sharks are offering great deals (if you believe in timeshares). However there were three large cruise ships that came in with loads of tourists that swamped the marina so maybe we are seeing some signs of recovery – let’s hope so.
Gartner and IDC report that PC sales were down in Q1 and they are trying to make the case that tablets are eating into that market. I tend to think that the tablets are not replacing laptops per se but rather that families are opting for a tablet as a second or third device for web browsing and email instead of a full on computer. Let’s face it – it you don’t always need a laptop/desktop – but you do need one for most serious work. So PCs will lose market share for a while and then stabilize.
That’s it for now – back to my Centenario and the fireworks.
Thanks to everyone who downloaded the latest version. We hope to have some interesting new features soon.
